Conan is in the dungeon in Nemedia. He is visited by Zenobia who helps him to escape. Conan runs into a giant ape that guards the dungeon and kills it. He escapes back to Aquilonia and finds his kingdom occupied with a traitor on the throne. He meets a witch woman who advises him he must recover the heart of his kingdom if he is to free it. The conspiracy starts to worry that Xaltotun has plans of his own and will betray them. Conan hears the leaders are holed up in the Iron Tower and go to kill them. The cult of Asura saves him from being killed.

The second part of the novel.
This second installment is OK. It is clearly abridged as is quite obvious after reading the original novel that is provided. It does stay true to the original, but you do miss out on stuff. Like more interaction with Zenobia to see her devotion to Conan. The witch Zelata and how Conan saved her from marauding Nemedians. His real reason to infiltrate the Iron Tower was to rescue a loyal countess not to kill the conspirators. Marvel definitely did it better and gave the space to properly tell the story.
