Magnus travels back 50,000 years to the place where the Lost Valley exists. Using his machine, he manages to bring all the times together at the same time. He meets Samson and Andar in the future with the bone keys. Using them they manage to save time from the black blob creature. Only stuff is altered like Magnus is now a woman and the other Sovereigns are also different. Samson retains the memory but is now in an altered future world.
“Doctor Spektor Part 5”
Writer: Aubrey Sitterson
Artist: Dylan Burnett
Dr. Spektor is attacked by some demons that he owes money to. Luckily a Frankenstein monster that is his roommate comes to help him out.
Well, this series comes to an end. Apparently, its purpose was to show why these classic Gold Key characters changed into the new woke versions. A bit of lazy writing to have Magnus just travel in time and use his machine to set everything alright. I was expecting something different and am a bit disappointed in the series. Got it for the upcoming Turok and I have a feeling that that won’t be very good. Oh well you got to try new stuff now and then. Knowing what I know now I think I wouldn’t have bothered with this series. Don’t really recommend it.
The big bad black blob is killing Solar. Magnus is revived by his computer and sees that the Moon is destroyed. Its pieces are heading toward Earth. Magnus has the machine conscience launch every weapon to intercept the fragments. He also implements The Endgame Protocol. Five cities New York, Moscow, Oslo, Paris and Tokyo have buildings that slide down into the Earth and are sealed up. These will survive the coming catastrophe. Everyone else well not so much. In the future Samson and Andar come on a place that the Moon crashed into the Earth. They hope to find the bones of Solar and Magnus so they can stop this evil entity.
“Doctor Spektor Part 3”
Writer: Aubrey Sitterson
Artist: Dylan Burnett
Spektor is rushing to meet his girlfriend for dinner. He takes a short cut in the subway and meets a demon that he owes money to. He blinds him then continues on. On the street he works a spell to change himself into a beautiful woman so the cab driver will stop for him. At the restaurant he arrives late and is admonished that he must be on time for tomorrow. For they are going to get a rent-controlled apartment and Spektor must be on time.
This issue we get to see what caused the apocalypse of the future. Magnus and his Endgame Protocol is responsible for some of humanity surviving. Samson and N’yark are his doing. In the future they find a place for this mysterious gathering of the keys to stop the evil blob. A bit of a convoluted story but still I have interest in seeing how it is resolved.
As for the Spektor backup. It was dumb like the other installments I read. A loser millennial and a pointless look at his pathetic life.
Magnus has a brief period where he died because he was mentally linked to Dr. Spektor when he died. Luckily his computer manages to revive him. Solar discusses with her computer what is going on. We find out Magnus traveled back from 4000AD. In the future Samson battles some giant cat creature. After defeating it he then is confronted by Andar. Samson knocks the pistol from Andar’s hand after he shoots Samson. Samson talks with Andar and we find out that Samson is looking for two bone keys that belong to Solar and Magnus. He already has Turok and Spektor’s bone keys. Back in the present a huge explosion destroys Solar’s power station and she finds herself in the Lost Valley facing the giant black blob.
“Turok Part 4”
Writer: Chuck Wendig
Artist: Alvaro Sarraseca
The evil dinosaur mayor plans to sell Turok to the Varanids. He is going to shoot the young dinosaur man who was going to elope with his daughter. His daughter grabs a Jack Daniel bottle and cracks it over her father’s head. This causes a distraction that Turok grabs an AK and shoots the guards and the mayor.
The story is getting more interesting. We find out a bit about Magnus. We find out that Solar built some station that gives the world free solar power. In the future Samson is on a quest to find the bone keys of the Sovereigns of the Earth which are the various main characters. They all have died and the Moon blew up and took out Solar. Andar survived the creature that killed Turok and is now stuck in the future. Interesting story.
As for the Turok backup it is short and will be continued in Magnus which I don’t have. I will continue Turok’s adventures in his own series after the Sovereigns. Somehow I have a feeling I won’t care for this.
50,000 years in the past Tragg and Loren lead their people to a new valley. In the future Dr. Spektor battles some evil presence in the Lost Valley. Magnus hears that some refugees lost their lives trying to enter so he holds a press conference. He warns that something has taken over the Lost Valley and nobody should try to enter. The press of course asks all sorts of dumb questions. Magnus gets a message from Dr. Spektor. Spektor warns that this evil is very powerful and a threat to the entire world. Spektor then dies in a horrible fashion.
“Turok Part 3”
Writer: Chuck Wendig
Artist: Alvaro Sarraseca
Turok with Arthok have arrived at Railtown to rescue Arthok’s love. Turok’s plan is to knock out Arthok and take him to the mayor for a reward. Only the mayor recognizes Turok and knows that there is a large reward for him.
They brought back Tragg. They didn’t do much with him but it was cool to see he wasn’t forgotten. Maybe someday they will give that character a new series. Anyway, the story was OK. Not a lot happened except Magnus comes to the realization that something big is happening that is a threat. Dr. Spektor gets killed by being torn apart so we know that this bad thing is really dangerous. It does keep my interest to find out what happens.
The Turok story was short and apparently is being run in the other titles. Seems Dynamite decided to plant cross stories in all the titles to sell books. Anyway, Turok gets captured by a big evil dinosaur man wearing a tie. This was too short to give a good judgement but this just doesn’t seem like the Turok I knew.
In 2020 Oslo Magnus gets a visit from a probe he sent five years ago to the Lost Valley. It reports that Turok is dead. So, Magnus goes to Dr. Spektor to find out more. Spektor says that he would have sensed the death of Turok and even after seeing the images from the probe refuses to believe it. After all images can be faked. So, Magnus goes to Solar in orbit. There he finds out that the Lost Valley moves in time. Which is why his probe took so long and Spektor can’t sense Turok’s death. Meanwhile in 2520 Samson continues his quest on a deserted Earth. He has to battle a living tree. At the end Dr. Spektor goes to the Lost Valley and comes face to face with the black blob that killed Turok.

In 2020 New York Dr. Magnus who in this story is a woman has an appointment with a robot named Eugene. She has a session with him to find out why Eugene is acting so strangely.
The second issue now gives us the mystery of Turok’s death which looked like it happened when he confronted the black blob. We get an introduction to Magnus, Dr. Spektor and Solar. The writer did a good job of introducing these characters. The reader gets a good sense of their personalities. So far, I am intrigued with the direction of this story. I am really still interested in the Samson future. That has some real possibilities. I also notice that the characters in the Sovereigns don’t match the other stories. Plus, they only set it in what is three years in the future now a year in the past. They have some very advanced ideas for this futuristic 2020. I suppose this world is an alternate one. Otherwise, the Magnus short with the female version was way too short to properly judge. It might or might not be good. Which I guess is better than not being good right off the bat.
2525 and Samson arrives at the ruins of San Francisco. The Earth has been destroyed and he comes to fight this large black blob. Then we jump to 2020 in the Lost Land. King Turok is celebrating his rule. He has brought peace and prosperity to the valley. Yet a storm comes and he knows it brings evil. So he mounts a raptor and with some of his followers rides out to confront this new evil. It is the same black blob that Samson is confronting in the future.

“Discussing the Sovereigns with the Writers of Issue #0”
Byron Brewer interviews Ray Fawkes, Chuck Wendig, Aubrey Sitterson and Kyle Higgins about what they plan to do. It is mostly a fluff piece that goes on about the classic series and how they love what they are doing.
So this series is an introduction to the rebooting of classic Gold Key characters. I got it because of the Turok that was coming out. For the most part it is a mixed bag. I enjoyed the main story with Samson and Turok. Sets up this evil entity that was responsible for destroying the world. A very intriguing idea. I was especially interested in the future world of Samson.
We also get some glimpses of the upcoming characters in three short stories. Once again a mixed bag. The Magnus one was the most interesting with some woman recovering rogue AIs trying to escape in the cloud. The Turok one was somewhat interesting. The Spektor one was just dumb. The writer in the interview goes on about this millennial loser which is something I have absolutely no interest in. This guy was a dumb dipshit loser. Otherwise an issue with some promise.
